Start Building A Healthier You: Part 3 in Dubuque
Did you know that 24% of Americans today get no physical activity a day? And 70% of adults get less than 30 minutes daily? When we combine little to no activity with the stress that comes with daily living, our bodies can weaken and become sick. In this video, Dr. Jack discusses why we need movement and some of the benefits.
Poor Lifestyle Choices Equals Poor Health
Lack of movement is now considered the third leading cause of death in the US. It contributes to the second leading cause of death which is associated with obesity and insulin regulation.
In 17 states, obesity rates are over 30%. Yet in 1999 no state had an obesity rate of more than 20%. Some people think that genes are to blame. While epigenetics does predispose us to some things, it’s more about lifestyle.
In our country, we’re spending over $2 billion each day on major conditions such as heart disease, cancer, obesity and more. The good news is you have the power to buck those trends.
Get Your Vitamin M
Just as you likely take various vitamins and supplements, make sure you get a healthy daily dose of vitamin M for movement. Here are some of the many benefits associated with the movement:
- Improves insulin sensitivity
- Boosts brain function
- Improves cardiac function
- Promotes better body composition
- Strengthens bones
- Increases immune system function
Lack of Movement Leads to a Stressed Body
When the body’s not moving there are certain nerves in the joints of the body that aren’t able to fire properly or enough. Because the brain isn’t receiving this information from the body instead it’s receiving a distress signal. This signal can become a stress response, which plays a role in sickness development.
For example, if you sit for more than four hours a day your brain function decreases. You also may be at a higher risk for serious conditions such as heart disease, cancer, dementia or Alzheimer’s.
The Role of Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic can help to introduce healthy motion back into the spine, allowing you to move more. Your brain also will naturally be able to calm down. Chiropractic should be part of everyone’s wellness regimen, particularly if you have a job that requires you to sit for long periods.
